Runcorn homes to take part in energy efficiency monitoring programme

HeatingSave Energy Monitor software

A housing association from Runcorn is taking part in a study to measure the efficiency of the latest heating insulation systems in a bid to combat UK fuel poverty, a news report has been able to find.

The housing association, Riverside, has been awarded £227,500 from National Energy Action’s (NEA) technical innovation fund to compare recently-installed insulation systems in 35 homes in The Glen, Palacefields, in Runcorn.

The project will assess the most cost-effective and efficient ways of keeping homes warmer for longer.

Using four different insulation systems, the project’s aim is to assess the best and most cost-effective ways to keep homes warmer and residents healthier. Monitoring will take place until March 2017 with the final report completed by June 2017.

Rhoda Wilkinson, Riverside strategic affordable warmth officer, said: “We are working with tenants over the next 12 months to help them use their systems efficiently.

“But this isn’t just a technical project.

“We will be recording health and wellbeing improvements too, in order to inform future insulation solutions for similar properties.”

Building Energy Management Systems are capable of delivering extensive monitoring and control options, compared to basic controls. They typically employ data from a variety of sources (boiler flow and return sensors, internal and external temperature sensors, occupancy sensors, humidity sensors, etc.), and enable the perfect optimization of a building’s boiler-based central heating system.
