Can remote working save you up to 25% on heating bills?
The initial pandemic lockdown drove many businesses to rapidly adopt remote working. Now, several months on, the economy is opening up again, and many workplaces are seeing a return to previous occupation levels.
However, some forward-thinking businesses are taking the opportunity to adopt a more flexible workplace management style. Some employees may need to, or choose to, work in office premises, while others may choose to work from home. Several recent surveys suggest that British workers would most prefer a blended, flexible approach where they come into the office twice or three times a week.
How should employers approach that, from a utilities perspective, as we enter autumn and then winter?
If everyone is back in the office, the heating might need to be on all day.
If no-one is back in the office, there needs to be only minimal heating, to avoid pipes freezing.
Take control of your heating bills with the HeatingSave Building Energy Management System
Our innovative building energy management system (BEMS), HeatingSave can help you with this dilemma! We regularly save customers over 25% on their bills!
How do we make sure that the building is only heated exactly as much as it needs to be?
Firstly, our room booking system and Heating Diary ensure that you know exactly what each room is being used for, and can alter the required room temperature accordingly.
You can change the set room temperature up to 1000 times a day (yes, that’s one thousand) so you can react quickly to changing plans.
Our automatic occupancy sensors will detect when there is a sustained presence in an area and will quickly bring it up to your programmed temperature.
The second way that we ensure the building is only heated exactly as much as it needs to be is through our heat-loss algorithm.
This advanced set of rules works out exactly when it needs to turn the heating on in order to reach your required temperature. This includes taking into account outdoor temperatures. The more you use it, the more accurate it becomes.
For example, using another heating system you might realise that if staff come in at 9:00, turning on the heating at 9:00 results in cold, complaining staff trying to fiddle with the thermostat. So you might take a guess and set the heating to come on at 0:800.
However, if you simply tell the HeatingSave algorithm that you want the temperature to reach 19 degrees Celsius by 09:00, it might work out that it actually only needs to start up the boiler at 08:30. This saves you half an hour of heating costs!
There are huge numbers of useful features in HeatingSave, helping it to give you exactly the heating bill you should have. Have a look at our website for more detail, or get in contact.
