Average UK homes are kept 4C warmer now than they were in the 70’s, report suggests

The large majority of UK homes are heated by their residents at a temperature that’s 4C higher, on the average, than it used to be in the 1970’s, a government-commissioned report suggests.

According to a media source, the report points out that, while the average temperature within most homes is in fact higher than it used to be 40 years ago, most people usually spend 18% less energy per household nowadays, while also paying about £200 less per household each year.

One of the main reasons why homes are hotter, while in the same time requiring less energy, is the fact that back in 1970s, most heat in homes was lost up the chimney because of open coal fires or uninsulated walls and roofs. Nowadays, better insulation, better boilers and tighter building standards provide more comfort, while in the same time keeping bills lower.

The report also found that more households are extremely vulnerable to fuel price rises these days. In fact, nearly 15% of all UK households, especially those with elderly people, children and people with disabilities or long-term illnesses, were vulnerable to fuel poverty in 2011, compared to 6% in 2003.

Implementing an advanced energy management solution designed to optimize a household’s energy consumption can have a very positive effect on the bills and help drive more people out of fuel poverty, and this is specifically where HeatingSave could put its extensive features to very good use.

The system can help you slash anywhere between 20 to 30%+ on your energy bills by optimizing the heating system’s functionality while also taking into account a variety of factors, such as internal and external temperatures, flow and return temperatures, occupancy, etc.

HeatingSave works on most types of central heating systems that use natural gas, oil, solid fuel (such as anthracite), electricity or LPG. HeatingSave will also control renewable heating systems, such as air & ground source and wood burners.
