Energy management system better than music festival pledge to cut emissions

Going to a music festival this year? Well, attending a traditional mass mecca of peace and love such as Glastonbury has been shown, ironically, to do more damage to the eco-system. That is why ten UK music festivals have pledged to cut their emissions by 10 per cent in 2010.

The move is welcome as outdoor music events generate vast amounts of power (to fuel the sound and light systems) and waste products such as litter and discarded camping gear. Tom Findlay, one half of electronic music duo Groove Armada, said the appeal of the 10:10 campaign was that "it makes change feel achievable".

It is easy to cut your domestic emissions by 10 per cent (and more) too when you return home from grooving in a remote boggy field, by installing a building energy management system (BEMS) that cuts in the region of 25 to 30% the amount of fossil fuel energy needed to heat and light a building. Homes contribute around a QUARTER of UK greenhouse gas emissions.

However, HeatingSave have invented a heat-loss algorithm that monitors the heat loss profile of a building and then uses this to calculate the least amount of fuel needed to heat it up. It will keep on improving efficiency and protecting the environment by automatically turning up or down the boiler flow temperature depending upon the outside temperature.
