Energy supplier SSE to freeze energy prices until 2016

In quite an unexpected move, SSE, one of the UK’s “Big Six” energy suppliers, has revealed plans to freeze their energy tariffs until 2016, a news report in the business media has revealed.

Beside freezing tariffs, SSE, which is based in Perth, said it would legally separate its retail and wholesale businesses by March 2015, in order to “improve transparency”.

Naturally, such a serious move will certainly come at a cost, and SSE’s representatives that, indeed, they would have to streamline their operation in order to cover the shortfall. The “streamlining” process would involve the loss of 500 jobs and the company also plans to shelve three planned offshore wind farm developments, in order to attain total cost savings of £100m.

While SSE’s plans are certainly commendable, the truth of the matter is that optimizing energy consumption across any household is something every home owner should consider in order to drive down their energy bills, and this is specifically where HeatingSave could put its market-leading experience to very good use.
