HeatingSave x Hallmaster Deliver Effortless Heating Control at Tansley Village Hall

We spoke to Chris Knightley, the Secretary for Tansley Village Hall, about their recent HeatingSave installation and it was immediately clear how dedicated Chris was to delivering an excellent experience to those that hire the hall. 

As a Village Hall, most of what they do involves hiring out their rooms and facilities for the local community. The activities Chris mentioned included a large mix of yoga, Zumba, and line dancing, to photography, cinema, and Spanish lessons. This also includes bookings for private usage, such as parties, art displays, and more. 

Money raised from successful hiring, local authority grants and charity fundraising has allowed Chris and the Committee to invest money into improving the Hall, such as the 2010 restoration project. Chris explained that this had enabled them to deliver a better experience for their customers and community, which has further driven their profits. This kind of success allowed them to look into a Building Management System to handle room bookings.  

Three spaces need to be controlled: a large hall, a large room with a kitchen, and a smaller room upstairs. These need heating during Autumn, Winter, and Spring, with the largest room using 10 radiators. The system runs on a twin boiler setup, which can meet demand.  However, the system was initially all on or all off for the whole building. Initially, they hired a plumber to create heating zones, which reduced the amount of wasted heat, but Chris was still struggling to control temperatures for different bookings, as they all had different needs. Because of this, unlike a lot of our customers, Chris only wanted a way to automate how he ran the hall.  

Chris is very hands-on with his stewardship of the hall and is there nearly every day. "I would need to check if the room was set", but now, because of HeatingSave, he doesn't. He heard about HeatingSave through our integration with Hallmaster and was pleasantly surprised to find that we were a great fit and would help with his automation issues. "It means I don't have to worry anymore. It's better for my customers as I don't make any mistakes. I could set a booking with a temperature, and the magic would happen in the background with your fantastic system." 

Tansley Village Hall saved 14% on their energy bills compared to last year, which is a great result, especially as they had already made energy-saving improvements to their system before installing HeatingSave. 

We asked Chris about how easy he found the system and how much training he needed to use it. "I didn't need a very long training session; I have an understanding but, Anton on the Helpdesk added to it. He filled in things I didn't know." He was also very positive about his Helpdesk experience. 

Full of praise for our installer, Chris said: "[He] was absolutely first class. He was so good, I can't speak highly enough of him. He was so good with me and the place and getting it all installed well, quickly and thoroughly. He was so hardworking, and I hope I've said it before. He was just brilliant, and it inspires such confidence." 

Finally, I asked Chris for his overall review of HeatingSave: "It's like being there but not being there. I could be anywhere. It's really good." "[Hallmaster and Heatingsave] - The two things together. It's superb. I've got no regrets whatsoever."
