The overall energy efficiency and the level of control over the heating system are considered to be the most essential features of a property, a new survey from Gocompare.com has been able to suggest.

Central heating topped the list after 69% said it was a must-have and double glazing followed closely behind with 68%.

Having access to plenty of electrical sockets came lower down the list at 54%, as did having a good Energy Performance Certificate rating, at 46%.
