E.ON also preparing 6.6 percent hike in energy prices

Following EDF's energy bills' hike, announced yesterday, E.ON remains the only major UK energy supplier not to have announced a significant increase in their winter fuel bills.

However, it apparently plans to do so in the near future, a media report suggests, with more than four million households set to incur a 6.6% hike in their bills, starting with early January. In real terms, the increase will equate to an additional 90 pounds being added to every dual fuel bill, reaching a total average value of around £1,425.

The relatively lower increase will certainly put some extra pressure on the rest of the energy suppliers, who've pushed up prices significantly more and blamed the spiralling cost of meeting the green obligations of the Government's "Eco" scheme for the scale.

On the other hand, E.ON has completed at least four times as much work under the 'Eco' programme than either company so far this year, which, according to a source, makes it feel "pretty confident that its increase will show its rivals are pushing up profit margins."

E.ON is expected to make the announcement right before the Chancellor's Autumn Statement, when Mr. Osborne is expected to announce the Government will stop funding multi-billion pound green schemes through household energy bills and instead switch the cost onto taxpayers. Energy suppliers claim this could lower household bills by as much as 7 per cent overnight.
