E.ON announces 3.7% energy price hike

E.ON is the latest of the “Big Six” energy suppliers to push up prices for their customers, although to a significantly lower extent than its competitors, a media news report has revealed.

The increase will add an estimate £48 to the average dual fuel bill, and will take effect on 18 January. Customers who currently have just an electricity account with E.On will see prices rise by an average of 3.7%, or £20 a year, while customers on gas-only contracts will be charged an average of 4.6% more, or £37 a year.

Tony Cocker, Chief Executive, E.ON UK said: “There is no escaping the simple fact that any price rise is unwelcome news for customers. We know that, which is why we have held off for longer than most of our competitors and worked hard to keep our rise as low as possible. However, now more than ever, the help we offer our customers, in terms of advice and practical measures, is absolutely vital.

“Whilst there can be no guarantees, the likelihood of further price rises over the next 18 months caused by an increase in the cost of social and environmental obligations has receded due to the recent action taken by the Government.”

Unfortunately, while E.ON’s price hike is significantly smaller than the ones announced by its direct competitors, it still means that its customers will have to pay more for their energy, proving, once more, that true savings can only be achieved by implementing long-term, sustainable energy optimization measures, such as HeatingSave.

Building Energy Management Systems are capable of delivering extensive monitoring and control options, compared to basic controls. They typically employ data from a variety of sources (boiler flow and return sensors, internal and external temperature sensors, occupancy sensors, humidity sensors, etc.), and enable the perfect optimization of a building’s boiler-based central heating system.
