North-South divide also visible in terms of heating habits

The heating habits vary largely across the UK, especially on the North-South axis, with southerners more prone to switching on the heating early, a recent news report on the matter was able to reveal.

A poll of 1,000 people by price comparison service Make it Cheaper found that the attitude towards heating varies a lot, with northerners being the most reluctant to switch on the heating early.

The Scots appear much more tolerant of colder conditions, waiting until the outside temperature falls to a balmy 10.8°C before firing up their radiators, while Londoners do the same when the temperatures reaches 12.6°C.

Residents of South Wales, on the other hand, are much less resilient to cold weather, switching on the heating as soon as the external temperatures reach 13.5°C.

Furthermore, residents in the south tend to heat their homes to a higher temperature. While northerners typically maintain an average temperature of around 19 degrees Celsius around the house, those in the south push it up a notch, to an average of 21.5°C.
