Reducing VAT for energy efficiency measures would be better than Green Deal, UK builders argue

The Green Deal scheme, set to run until March 2014, is quite far from having reached its full potential, very few home-owners actually signing-up to the UK government’s programme.

For this reason, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) argues that the scheme is highly ineffective, and actually reducing VAT on energy-efficiency measures by 5% would result in a significantly higher number of people actually adopting such measures, a news report reveals.

In fact, the FMB’s own research demonstrated that cutting VAT to five percent on energy-efficient glazing and boiler replacements could result in 57,668 purchases of both by 2020.

Brian Berry, the Chief Executive of the FMB, said: “Green Deal finance was supposed to bring about a dramatic increase in the number of people improving the energy efficiency of their property by removing the upfront cost, but the complexity of the scheme and the high interest rate is severely limiting the number of households that see the Green Deal as relevant. Instead reducing VAT on energy-efficiency improvement work would create a real incentive and allow small, local firms to carry out the work, which they are currently struggling to win under the Green Deal.”

Given the fact that it helps home owners cut energy bills by up to an impressive 30%+, HeatingSave is the perfect energy-saving measure to implement, considering the huge long-term savings it enables.

The system is built around the idea of optimizing the energy consumption levels within any building with the help of an advanced heat-loss algorithm that creates a specific profile for any building and based on that, switches heating on later if its warm and off earlier if its cold.

It also automatically adjusts your boiler depending on how warm it is outside – save up to another 10%.

Additionally, the automatic occupancy detection allows the temperature to reduce to a background when areas are not used and quickly brought up to temperature when they are being used.
