Scottish fuel poverty levels remained fairly unchanged throughout 2014

The levels of fuel poverty across Scotland remained fairly unchanged throughout the whole of 2014, with a total of 845,000 homes were fuel poor – or 34.9% – falling within this category, new figures released by the Scottish Government have been able to suggest.

Out of the aforementioned number of households, around 9.5% were living in “extreme” fuel poverty, the same figures have found.

The figures remained similar to 2013 when 860,000 households lived in fuel poverty – 35.8%, despite average fuel prices increasing by 3.5% between 2013 and 2014, it added.

The impact of this increase in fuel poverty was mitigated by a rise in average net household income and improvements in the overall energy efficiency of the housing stock.

The report stated: “The extent to which home energy use is monitored by householders remains stable with 54% stating they monitor their energy use ‘very’ or ‘fairly closely’, 7% report owning an energy monitoring device – a 5% increase since 2008. Fuel poor households are no more likely to monitor their energy use or own an energy monitoring device.”

HeatingSave –An effective building energy management system for home or commercial venues

Efficient and effective Building Energy Management Systems are capable of delivering extensive monitoring and control options, compared to basic controls. They typically employ data from a variety of sources (boiler flow and return sensors, internal and external temperature sensors, occupancy sensors, humidity sensors, etc.), and enable the perfect optimization of a building’s boiler-based central heating system.

The end result is that users still get a very good level of comfort, while in the same time saving energy and money in the process.
