ScottishPower to cut energy prices for domestic customers by 3.3% this year

Energy supplier ScottishPower has just revealed plans to reduce overall gas and electricity prices for its domestic customers by 3.3% over the next 12 months, a brand new media report on the matter has revealed.

As of the 31’st of January, the energy supplier will cut £42 from an annual dual fuel bill, which will subsequently drop to around £1,199.

Additionally, the supplier has also vowed to pass on to its customers a £12 rebate every year from the Warm Home Discount scheme, which is currently funded through levies on energy bills, but will change to general taxation in the near future.

Nevertheless, the company claims that the large majority of its customers will not really benefit from the price drop given the fact that they’re already on fixed tariffs and pay less than that.

Neil Clitheroe, ScottishPower’s CEO of Energy Retail and Generation said the energy firm will try to avoid any further price rises in 2014 however they will depend on “whether there are increases in wholesale energy prices or other costs outside of our control”.
