Simplified energy bills are still too confusing for home owners, consumer group claims

Despite Ofgem's claims that the new energy bills should be much easier to understand and could play a significant part in helping consumers save money by switching suppliers, they're still too confusing for most people, a survey carried out by consumer group Which? Has recently revealed.

Out of the 500 people participating in the poll, close to 35% were able to easily figure out the best deal when shown a set of bills in the new format. In fact, even amongst those who used a calculator in order figure out the available savings, only half managed to spot the best deal.

Consumers not only needed to so some mental arithmetic to work out the cheapest deal, they also needed to know how much gas or electricity they use in a year.

"In spite of Ofgem's tariff reforms to simplify the market, consumers are still failing to spot the cheapest deal because energy pricing remains too complicated," said Richard Lloyd, the executive director of Which?
