Community batteries could cut bills

The government has called for evidence around shared battery storage, aiming to help communities store locally generated renewable energy and save money on energy bills.

Community batteries store electricity from sources such as solar power, which can then be accessed by multiple homes whenever it's needed. This can reduce reliance on mains electricity, and is part of the drive to make new homes more energy efficient.

The UK infrastructure for community batteries is currently underdeveloped, and this evidence-gathering phase hopes to produce information on deployment, regulations and safety, as well as consider the practicalities involved.

HeatingSave can help you track and record your energy usage from different sources, enabling you to see how much of each type of energy you are using, and how much you are saving on energy bills.
