Bridgend water testing lab to cut energy bills with help from the Carbon Trust

A laboratory that specializes in testing drinking water supplies is set to cut its energy bills by more than £40,000 after implementing a few energy-saving measures recommended by the Carbon Trust.

The Severn Trent Water laboratory in Bridgend discovered there was little variation in its base energy usage when compared with peak consumption, with similar levels being used at night and on weekends, even though there were fewer staff in the building.

For this reason, it contacted the Welsh Government-funded Carbon Trust Wales, who carried out a survey focusing on identifying measures that provided a payback in less than five years.

Some of their quick-fix ideas include installing draught excluders, fixing plug timers to all electric sockets and removing a disused coffee machine, which was maintaining hot water 24 hours a day.

Another major saving identified by the Carbon Trust is related to energy awareness, and this is specifically where HeatingSave’s technical know-how in terms of occupancy control could really come in handy.

HeatingSave and Tensor plc have been successfully selected as an Accredited Supplier to the Carbon Trust back in February 2012.

The Accredited Supplier status was awarded in recognition of HeatingSave’s track record in supplying and installing high quality energy efficient solutions for its customers. Within the application, backed by a series of successful testimonials and case studies, Tensor featured its HeatingSave product – a revolutionary Energy Management System that reduces the energy consumption of businesses and homes by typically 20 to 30%+.

HeatingSave is also approved to work and save fuel within the Energy Technology List, which is managed by the Carbon Trust on behalf of the Government. It is also approved by the Department of Energy & Climate Change and the Energy Savings Trust and was specified by the Building Research Establishment for the energy efficient homes retro-fit program, called The Greenhouse Project.
