UK’s industrial sector is ‘overspending on energy by £2.2bn’, new report suggests

Extensive research done under the Energy Efficiency Financing (EEF) scheme has revealed that the industrial sector in the UK is overspending on energy by more than £2.2 billion per year.

The survey carried out by EEF, a joint initiative between the Carbon Trust and Siemens, also found that the main reasons behind this situation is represented by inefficient technology, equipment and controls.

So, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that switching to cost-effective energy efficient equipment could help businesses find multi-billion pound savings.

Myles McCarthy, Managing Director of Carbon Trust Implementation Services said the figures show the “huge opportunity” businesses have to save energy and costs.

He added: “Wise businesses who ensure their operations are using energy efficiently in these difficult economic times will reap huge benefits. We’re seeing increasing demand amongst businesses for us to help them get to grips with energy efficiency and capture the associated cost savings. Often organisations struggle to determine the most appropriate solutions for their business and therefore do not have the confidence to progress and unlock these great opportunities.”

Businesses who are seriously considering the prospect of implementing energy efficiency solutions in order to save energy and reduce their bills should seriously consider going for a HeatingSave Building Energy Management System, given the extensive range of cost-effective features it provides.

Building Energy Management Systems are capable of delivering extensive monitoring and control options, compared to basic controls. They typically employ data from a variety of sources (boiler flow and return sensors, internal and external temperature sensors, occupancy sensors, humidity sensors, etc.), and enable the perfect optimization of a building’s boiler-based central heating system.
