Over 3.2 million customers have already switched energy suppliers in 2018, report suggests

FUSE-SIDE-11

The total number of households switching energy suppliers in 2018 has already reached 3.2 million, and it’s likely to rise even further as home owners face new increases from the Big Six energy suppliers.

Just under half a million (477,106) customers switched supplier in July, a report from Energy UK suggests. Small and mid-tier suppliers gained 182,814 customers in July – 38% of all switches.

Confidence in switching remains high with nine in 10 consumers happy with the process according to research from the Energy Switch Guarantee, an industry initiative which provides customers with extra confidence in switching. The Guarantee is a set of commitments to ensure switching is simple, speedy and safe and now covers over 90 percent of the market.

Lawrence Slade, chief executive of Energy UK said:

“It is positive to see that nearly half a million customers switched to a better energy deal in July despite the record high temperatures.

“It has never been a better time to shop around or call your existing supplier to see if you could be on a better deal for you – whether that’s a cheaper deal or a green tariff or better customer service. Switching can take as little as ten minutes and, with the Energy Switch Guarantee in place, customers should feel confident it will be simple, speedy and safe.”

This is done by taking into account a variety of factors, such as internal and external temperatures, occupancy, time of the year, the particular characteristics of installed boilers, etc. All of the data is used in order to determine the best heating patterns for the various heating zones within any building, using our proprietary heat-loss algorithm.

The end result is that users still get a very good level of comfort, while in the same time saving energy and money in the process.
