Lack of a long-term plan adversely affects progress in the energy efficiency of UK buildings

HeatingSave – making homes more energy efficient

The lack of a long-term plan from successive UK governments is having a profoundly negative effect on the overall energy efficiency of UK buildings, according to the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE).

The comments follow the publication of the House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee report Home Efficiency And Demand Reduction. CIBSE said that it echoed its recommendations that efficiency should be a key part of the government’s energy policy, and that a stable, long-term framework should be established to provide a landscape for consumers and investors.

CIBSE said that policies for energy efficiency varied across commercial, public, domestic and non-domestic buildings. On a national level, schemes vary by location, scale and form, with some requiring loans and some funded based on local demographics.

Sara Kassam, head of sustainability at CIBSE, said the report was further recognition that energy efficiency should be a major pillar in the government’s strategy for energy in the UK.

“In their current form, national energy policies are hampering efforts to make buildings more efficient,” said Kassam. “By giving energy efficiency the national attention and funding that it deserves, we can tackle the UK’s energy trilemma of reducing carbon emissions, enhancing energy security, and ensuring that energy is affordable and accessible.”

HeatingSave – The most effective energy-saving system for home or commercial venues

Efficient and effective Building Energy Management Systems are capable of delivering extensive monitoring and control options, compared to basic controls. They typically employ data from a variety of sources (boiler flow and return sensors, internal and external temperature sensors, occupancy sensors, humidity sensors, etc.), and enable the perfect optimization of a building’s boiler-based central heating system.

The end result is that users still get a very good level of comfort, while in the same time saving energy and money in the process.
